Résumé
Le lichen plan buccal (LPB) est une affection inflammatoire de la muqueuse buccale dont la prévalence est comprise entre 0,5 et 2,2 % dans la population adulte. La maladie se déclare généralement entre 30 et 60 ans et est plus fréquente chez les femmes que chez les hommes. Contrairement aux lésions cutanées causées par le lichen plan, le LPB est souvent chronique et les patients sont confrontés à des rechutes et à des rémissions. Le LPB est aussi souvent à l’origine d’une morbidité importante, car il est considéré comme une lésion précancéreuse en raison de ses associations avec le carcinome épidermoïde buccal. Les taux de transformation maligne du LPB varient de 0,4 à 1,4 %, et ces taux sont les plus élevés pour les sous-types cliniques atrophiques et ulcéreux du LPB.
